Technical University of Munich (TUM) - Signal Processing in Earth Observation (SiPEO)

The Research Group Signal Processing in Earth Observation “SiPEO” develops explorative algorithms to improve information retrieval from remote sensing data, in particular those from current and the next generation of Earth observation missions. Currently, the team is working on the following main areas: 1) sparse Earth observation; 2) non-local filtering concept; 3) robust estimation. The improved retrieval of geo-information from EO data can be used to better support cartographic applications, resource management, civil security, disaster management, planning and decision making.

Cooperation Partners

German Aerospace Center - Earth Observation Center

Remote Sensing Technology Institute (DLR-IMF)

The Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF) is an institute of the German Aerospace Center DLR. It is located in Oberpfaffenhofen (near Munich), Berlin, and Neustrelitz (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Research and development activities at IMF are dedicated to remote sensing technology. Algorithms and methods are developed to configure processors that extract relevant geoinformation from remote sensing data. Operational processors are the prerequisite for optimal utilization of modern sensor systems for advanced scientific purposes and numerous applications. These processors are integrated into the payload ground segments of DFD and industry for national and international earth observation missions.

German Aerospace Center - German Remote Sensing Data Center (DLR-DFD)

The German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) supports science and industry as well as the general public. With its national and international receiving stations DFD offers direct access to data from earth observation missions, derives information products from the raw data, disseminates these products to users, and safeguards all data in the National Remote Sensing Data Library (D-SDA) for long term use. Its geoscience research related to the atmosphere, global change and civil security facilitates access to products and approaches based on remote sensing and consolidates their utilization in scientific and commercial domains. DFD operates thematic user services, in particular the World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmospheric (WDC-RSAT), and the Center for Satellite-based Crisis Information (ZKI).

The Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF) and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) together comprise the Earth Observation Center EOC – a center of competence for earth observation in Germany.
